About Us
Who We Are
The Jewish Parents Institute is a Sunday school which emphasizes the secular expression of our Jewish heritage, with particular emphasis on the cultural and ethical precepts of Jewish learning. The JPI was founded over 50 years ago by Jewish parents in the Detroit area who wanted to celebrate Jewish life without prescribed religious observances. As part of the Congress of Jewish Secular Organizations, we belong to the world-wide movement of Jews who give emphasis to cultural, historical and ethical basis for Jewish identity.
Our goal is to help our children develop a meaningful Jewish identity, and take an active role in the Jewish community through:
- Hands-on classes for kids in nursery school through 8th grade
- Family holiday celebrations
- Bar and Bat Mitzvah programs
- Educational and social activities for parents
Our Staff
The JPI staff is a group of dedicated, professionals, many of whom have over 10 years of experience with the JPI. They attend workshops and seminars annually. Graduating teens maintain their ties to the program by becoming assistants in the classroom.
Our Location
Our classes held at the Jewish Community Center D. Dan and Betty Kahn Building on the Eugene and Marcia Applebaum Jewish Community Campus in West Bloomfield.
JPI classes meet every Sunday from 10 am to 12:15 pm September through May.
